What is Biomechanics?

While many definitions of biomechanics are available, they all focus on the general concept that biomechanics is at the intersection of biology and mechanics.

Perhaps one of the best definitions was provided by Herbert Hatze in 1974: "Biomechanics is the study of the structure and function of biological systems by means of the methods of mechanics."

Bruce Martin, who is a founding memeber of ASB as well as past-president, put together a genealogy of biomechanics that provides additional information about this topic.
