For those I haven’t met yet, I’m Erin Mannen, Associate Professor of Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering at Boise State University. I lead the Boise Applied Biomechanics of Infant (BABI) Lab, where our research focuses on infant biomechanics. ASB has played a crucial role throughout my career, from building meaningful professional connections to finding a supportive and welcoming community, and I’m truly honored to give back by serving as Awards Committee Chair.

ASB award nominations were due January 15, so the bulk of the Awards Committee’s work will take place over the coming months as we carefully review nominations and meet to select this year’s award recipients. I’m grateful to be stepping into this role and to be working alongside such a thoughtful, engaged, and dedicated committee.

This year will look a bit different, as we’ll be gathering at the World Congress of Biomechanics rather than our typical ASB Annual Meeting. That means a few changes in how awards are presented in Vancouver, but also some fun opportunities. We’re excited about new ideas to highlight and celebrate our award winners not only at World Congress, but also through virtual events and online platforms that let us extend that recognition beyond the meeting itself. We’re also working on new action items aligned with the ASB Strategic Plan, so there’s more to come.

In the coming weeks, please keep an eye on your inbox, as I’ll be reaching out to recruit additional award reviewers. If you’re interested in serving as an awards reviewer, I’d love to hear from you at ASBawards@ASBweb.org. Broad participation is essential to a fair and rigorous review process, and as a bonus, you’ll get a front-row seat to some truly outstanding work by members of our society.

Thank you for trusting me in this role. I’m looking forward to the year ahead and to seeing many of you in Vancouver this summer. Wishing you a great start to the new year!
