“Connecting and Growing Our Biomechanics Community”

As we start another year, I am thrilled to share the progress our Communications Committee has made in amplifying the voice of the American Society of Biomechanics. Our goal remains clear: to foster a vibrant, connected, and informed community that celebrates the breadth and impact of biomechanics.

Expanding Our Digital Footprint

In today’s fast-paced research environment, staying connected is more important than ever. We are continuing to establish and grow ASB’s presence across a wide range of social media platforms (including LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, Threads, Bluesky, and X (Twitter)) to ensure we meet our members where they are. Follow us for real-time updates, research highlights, and member spotlights.

We also recognize that social media isn’t for everyone. If you prefer to stay off these platforms, you will still have full access to everything ASB has to offer. Our monthly email updates will continue to contain all critical deadlines and society news. Further, the ASB website will remain our central repository for important dates and instructions, serving as a permanent reference you can consult at any time. Our goal is to enhance our reach, while not leaving anyone behind.

Join the Team: Committee Expansion

To support our growing ambitions, we are expanding the Communications Committee and focusing our efforts on four key pillars:

  1. Website: Enhancing our digital home to be more user-friendly and resource-rich.
  2. Content Generation: Developing stories, spotlights, and news that showcase our members’ work across our different platforms.
  3. Public Engagement: Moving beyond announcements to foster genuine, two-way interaction with our audience across all our platforms.
  4. Platform Analytics: Understanding not only what content resonates most, but also where and how our members prefer to receive their information and engage with ASB.

If you have experience in these areas, or even just a keen interest in learning, we would love to have you. Getting involved is a fantastic way to network across the Society and help shape how biomechanics is perceived globally. Please reach out to me, Evan Dooley, if you’d like to join our efforts on the Communications Committee.

Progress on Strategic Plan

Following the approval of the ASB Strategic Plan this past August, our committee has begun brainstorming and roadmapping the communications-specific priorities. We are currently in the initial stages of defining what “measures of success” look like for each goal.

This process involves a deep dive into the challenges we may face, such as resource constraints or shifting digital trends, and identifying the tools we already have versus those we need to find or develop. By building this roadmap now, we are ensuring that ASB’s communications strategy is not just reactive, but a proactive engine for the Society’s long-term growth.

I am incredibly grateful for the energy and passion this community brings to the field. I look forward to engaging with you online throughout the year and continuing these conversations as we head toward the 10th World Congress of Biomechanics in July.
