As my second year as Community Chair for the American Society of Biomechanics (ASB) comes to a close, it has been a privilege to serve in this role. I am continually inspired by the dedication of the Community Committee, whose members have worked diligently to advance initiatives that celebrate and support the diverse achievements of our Society’s membership.

In collaboration with the Awards and Education Committees, the Policy Review and Recommendations Subcommittee has expanded the eligibility criteria for several Society awards. We encourage all members to review these updates, which will take effect in 2026, on the ASB Awards webpage.

Launched in 2022 under the leadership of ASB President Dr. Ajit Chaudhari, the B-SURE Program (Biomechanics Summer Undergraduate Research Experience) continues to offer immersive academic and research opportunities for undergraduate students. Thanks to continued support from the De Luca Foundation, we are excited to announce the participants selected for the 2025 cohort.

Gabriel Araya, University of Tampa
Sarah Jones, Stevenson University
Christina Sanchez, California State University, Los Angeles
Isabella Schmidt, Hope College
Leo Tornes, Florida State University

At the conclusion of the program, students will present their research findings and share their experiences in a virtual symposium. More information about this event will be shared in upcoming ASB e-blasts.

As the upcoming Annual Meeting rapidly approaches, I would like to extend an invitation to engage with our Affinity Groups and Non-Profit Partners. Many of these groups will be hosting socials or workshops during the meeting, providing valuable opportunities for connection and collaboration. Details about these events can be found on the ASB website.

Additionally, I am pleased to announce the addition of a new Non-Profit Partner: the Biomechanics Initiative. Many ASB members are already familiar with this organization through National Biomechanics Day. We look forward to the contributions and opportunities the Biomechanics Initiative will bring to ASB and our members in the years ahead.

We encourage you to share your perspectives and get involved. If you are interested in joining the Community Committee, have ideas for future initiatives, or would like to learn more about our work, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Our ongoing goal is to better support and engage all members of the ASB community.

I look forward to reconnecting with many of you in Pittsburgh!
