As I enter my final year serving as Diversity Chair, I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to everyone who has supported and contributed to my vision of strengthening and elevating the American Society of Biomechanics community. I am deeply appreciative of the collective commitment to this work, and I am confident that the members of the Community Committee will continue to serve as impactful change agents, advancing meaningful, lasting progress across the field of biomechanics.
Through close collaboration with the Education and Awards Committees, the Policy Recommendation and Review Subcommittee received Executive Board approval for revised criteria for individual awards. One immediate and exciting outcome of this effort was the launch of the NextGen Biomechanics Travel Awards. This year, we were proud to provide funding opportunities to 22 students and early-career members. These revisions represent an important step forward in our ability to more effectively recognize, support, and celebrate the outstanding contributions of our members.
We also experienced tremendous success with both the Women in Science event and the Community Luncheon at the 2025 Annual Meeting. With near–record-breaking attendance, the Women in Science event centered on the timely and important concept of non-promotable work. In addition, collaborations with the Black Biomechanics Association, Latinx in Biomechanics, and International Women in Biomechanics created a powerful space for dialogue around Empowering Voices, Enabling Change, and supporting both current trailblazers and the next generation of biomechanists. If you were unable to attend these events and would like to learn more about the key takeaways, please feel free to reach out to me directly.
Finally, if you are interested in joining the Community Committee or would like to learn more about serving as its chair, I would be delighted to connect with you through email.
