Happy New Year! As we begin 2026, I am pleased to share updates on our society’s membership and activities from 2025.
2025 Membership Summary
As reported at our annual meeting, the American Society of Biomechanics had 1,142 active members in 2025. While this represents an 8% decrease from our 2024 membership total of 1,241, our community remains vibrant and engaged across all career stages.
Member Engagement and Retention
Throughout 2025, we continued to see strong participation in ASB activities, including our annual meeting, webinars, and
committee work. Our membership—spanning students, early-career researchers, established faculty, and emeritus and retired members—continues to be one of our greatest strengths.
We recognize that the decline in membership requires attention. The Board has been actively analyzing trends and gathering feedback to better understand the factors contributing to this change.
Looking Forward to 2026
As we look ahead to 2026, the Membership Committee will focus on contributing to the ASB Strategic Plan centered on thoughtful growth and sustained engagement. This includes optimizing membership categories and growth strategies to better reflect the evolving biomechanics workforce, empowering regional leadership to strengthen local and regional engagement, and reinforcing student retention and transition pathways as members move from training into early career stages. We will also work to more actively engage the leadership and mentorship capacity of ASB Fellows, while facilitating organizational and non-profit partnerships that expand professional opportunities and broaden participation within the Society. Together, these efforts are intended to enhance the value of ASB membership and support a connected, resilient community.
