As my time as ASB Student Rep comes to a close, I wanted to say thanks to the rest of the Executive Board for your support and guidance during my two years on the board; to the all of the members of the Student Committee for your ceaseless stream of ideas as well as your time and effort to make those ideas a reality; and to all of the leaders of our student chapters across the country for your patience and innovation as we all figured out not only how to launch this program but how to help it thrive in both the physical and virtual student experience. It has been a privilege to serve the Student Body of ASB. I have learned a lot and I hope that our students and trainees have found the work of the Student Committee useful and enjoyable. At the end of the conference in Ottawa, I will be leaving you all in the very capable hands of our next Student Rep, Anna Bailes, and I look forward to seeing where she will take this role next.

The ASB Student Body has been very busy over the winter and spring. The Student Committee launched our Student Author Ask-Me-Anything Series, where recently published student authors present their work as well as give other students some insight into how they went through the process from ideation of the work all the way through responding to reviewers for final publication. So far we have hosted five AMA’s with our sixth episode scheduled for Tuesday, August 2 at 6 pm CT (7pm ET/ 4pm PT). Check out the ASB website for highlights, recordings, and more information about this initiative.

The ASB Executive Board approved three new student chapters this spring and we are excited to welcome Auburn University, Cleveland State University, and Old Dominion University as the latest additions to our ranks. We are glad to have you with us and look forward to hearing more about the efforts you are doing at each of your institutions. If you are interested in starting an ASB student chapter at your institution more information can be found on the ASB website and feel free to reach out to me with any questions you may have.

Planning for trainee events at NACOB is well underway. I am grateful to be working with Jenny Leestma and our Canadian counterparts to bring you all excellent conference content. We will be introducing the Canadians to ASB’s famous conference Mentor Matching program (keep an eye out for the survey to sign-up), and are collaborating to merge professional development events and bring all trainees attending the conference our first in-person professional development roundtable event. New for this year, we are enlisting students from ASB and CSB to act as “Conference Insiders.” Our Conference Insiders have volunteered to be points of contact for any student attending the conference that has any questions about what that entails. We know that this will be the first in-person conference for many students, and we want to do our best to make sure that everyone gets the most out of their time in Ottawa. Finally, we have convinced your favorite biomechanics trivia duo to test their skills in-person at the trainee social, so now is the time to brush up on your history of CSB, get the updated stats on National Biomechanics Day, and check twitter for what sports no one besides the hosts seem to have heard of.

I hope the summer is going well for all of you and I am eagerly awaiting the end of August to get to meet so many of you in-person for the first time. Until then, please feel free to reach out to me about any ASB trainee related matters and I look forward to wrapping up my work as your Student Representative.
