2025 has been another great year for ASB! We saw continued expansion of several ASB programs directly tied to greater involvement of the biomechanics community. We were pleasantly surprised to gain unprecedented support to expand several of our society programs this year. In total, ASB awarded over $170,000 to more than 120 individuals in the form of awards, meeting registrations, and grants. Once again, we had generous donations from Nike, the Asian American Institute for Research and Education, Elsevier, and many of you, our ASB members and conference delegates. A very special thanks is given to the De Luca Foundation (named after long-time ASB member and supporter, Carlo J. De Luca) who gifted the first installment of a five-year $500,000 gift to support new and expanded programs such as the Carlo J. De Luca B-SURE program and the NextGen Biomechanics Travel Awards. This is the largest single donation in ASB’s history, and we are very excited about how we can use these funds to promote and support our ASB members. As the new Treasurer of ASB, I am thankful for the great processes and policies that the former Treasurer (Maria Pasquale) had put in to set our society on a strong financial path. Our Money Market account and our long-term investments have provided excellent annual returns, and we are encouraged that these will continue to provide a solid financial foundation for the society in the coming year.
Looking forward
We move forward into 2026 with a strong financial outlook. Instead of our 2026 Annual Meeting, we are participating in the World Congress of Biomechanics (WCB) in Vancouver, Canada, in partnership with the Canadian Society of Biomechanics and European Society of Biomechanics. We ask that you remember to affiliate with ASB when you register for WCB as these will be an important source of revenue for ASB in 2026. We also encourage you to renew your annual ASB membership to help continue support for many of our annual programs that directly benefit members (e.g., regional conferences, society awards, travel awards, etc.). We will continue to work with the Development Committee to administer the De Luca Foundation gift and encourage a culture of giving among our society membership. We have already started off 2026 by distributing six Regional Meeting Awards! We look forward to continuing to support our membership in the months ahead.
