This is my last newsletter column as a member of the ASB Executive Board. In Ottawa, I will pass the baton of the Past-President to Liz. My three-year term has been vastly affected by the global pandemic. As a result, it was a very different experience than when I served you first as your Education Chair and then as your Meeting Chair. I guess I will always be remembered as your COVID President as some of my ASB friends call me. Nevertheless, I am very pleased to have served ASB over the past three years and I am proud of what our Society has accomplished during this time. We are stronger and much more effective as we move forward. Some highlights are the hiring of Podium, a professional management company, to support the Society’s functions and help organize our conferences, the revitalization of our communication and marketing efforts, the many strides we have made in terms of student support with our student chapters and our mentoring network, our financial position despite the pandemic, and the major improvements in our diversity efforts and awards selection process.
Of course, everything was possible because I worked with an amazing group of dedicated volunteers who serve on the Executive Board and its committees. Specifically, I would like to thank the members of this year’s Nominating Committee – Peter Fino and Matt McCullough – who helped me put together an excellent and diverse group of candidates for the ASB elections. I am confident that our Society will be in great hands because we have so many amazing people that want to serve as well as an excellent professional company supporting our functions. I also would like to thank the members of the ASB Fellows Selection Committee who identified a fantastic group of new ASB Fellows who will be inducted this year and the current leaders of the Council of Fellows who continue to serve and advise our society. Lastly, I need to thank Brian Umberger and Michelle Sabick, who preceded me in the presidential line and guided me to be an effective leader.
I look forward to finally seeing you all in person this August at NACOB 2022. I can hardly contain my enthusiasm that we will finally be together as a family.
