As the Meeting Chair for the 49th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Biomechanics, I’m thrilled to invite you to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, from August 13–16, 2025! Planning is in full swing, and our team is hard at work preparing an outstanding event that brings the ASB community together to celebrate biomechanics, mentorship, innovation, and fun. Registration is now open, and I encourage everyone to register before the next rate increase on July 18. I hope that you enjoy this picture of Pittsburgh waking up to summer with the ASB 2025 Annual Meeting site in the background!

Program Chair Robin Queen, Program Chair-Elect Kim Bigelow, and I have been meeting weekly to shape a program that reflects the diversity, energy, and excellence of our field. Be sure to read the Program Chair’s update for details on the outstanding scientific sessions that we have in place.

The David L. Lawrence Convention Center—our host venue—is a bright and modern LEED-certified facility overlooking Pittsburgh’s rivers. If the weather cooperates, our banquet will be on the rooftop gardens with panoramic views. The Convention Center is located in the heart of a walkable, vibrant downtown and is surrounded by restaurants, museums, and iconic Pittsburgh sights. Whether you’re kayaking at Point State Park, exploring the legacy of Mister Rogers and Andy Warhol, or taking in the Steelers pre-season game at Acrisure Stadium, the 2025 meeting will be an experience you won’t want to miss.

Behind the scenes, I’ve had the pleasure of working closely with the Local Organizing Committee and our program team to create a welcoming and enriching meeting. I want to extend my deepest thanks to the Pittsburgh-based committee members—Steven Abramowitch, Anna Bailes, Rakié Cham, Richard Debski, Hartmut Geyer, Eni Halilaj, and Maria Pasquale—for their energy and efforts in connecting ASB with the city’s thriving biomechanics community.

A big part of what makes the ASB meeting possible is the support of our sponsors and exhibitors. Their involvement not only enriches the meeting experience but also helps us keep registration costs accessible. We’re excited to welcome back many long-standing supporters and introduce some fantastic new partners this year. Opportunities still remain to join as a sponsor or exhibitor—if your organization is interested, check out the 2025 Sponsor & Exhibitor Prospectus. Early commitments receive priority for booth selection and exclusive packages!

We’ve also been working hard to expand student travel support. Thanks to a grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF), we will once again be offering travel awards and professional development programming for students. We’re optimistic that additional funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) will allow us to support even more future leaders in biomechanics.

Our NSF-funded work doesn’t just fund travel—it helps us grow our community in meaningful ways. At ASB 2025, we’ll be reporting on the impact of the 2024 NSF-supported awards. Survey data from last year’s recipients showed high satisfaction with the meeting experience and professional development sessions. Awardees reported increased confidence in networking and presenting, and most participants plan to implement the skills they developed. These findings strongly support the expansion of these initiatives this year.

Whether you’re new to ASB or a long-time attendee, this year’s meeting in Pittsburgh promises connection, discovery, and opportunity. I can’t wait to welcome you to the Steel City—where Witbiers meet Warhol, rooftop gardens meet river trails, and biomechanics meets a bright future.

See you in August – I AM SO EXCITED!!
