Hello everyone! My name is Anna Bailes, and I am your new Student Representative. I’d like to start off by thanking previous Student Representative Evan Dooley for his dedication to the students of ASB and for helping to ease my transition into this role. My favorite part of this new position so far has been getting to know my fellow students through ASB Student Chapter events, regular Student Committee meetings, and our monthly programming. I look forward to continuing to work with you all as we build our biomechanics student community.
See below for student updates:
NACOB
We had another successful year of trainee events at the recent NACOB conference in Ottawa. Some favorites included Conference Insiders, the Professional Development Roundtables, and Trivia Night hosted by the infamous biomechanics duo. Check out some action shots from Ottawa, and get excited because planning for ASB 2023 in Knoxville is already underway!
We explored the city, enjoyed the ASB Student Committee’s first ‘in-person’ trivia night, and shared our latest research at poster and podium presentations.
We have welcomed five new ASB Student Chapters this year (Auburn University, Cleveland State University, Old Dominion University, University of Pittsburgh, and University of Delaware). This means we have a total of 13 student chapters, who are all doing great work organizing events such as journal clubs, professional development events, and National Biomechanics Day outreach activities. If you are interested in starting an ASB student chapter at your institution, more information can be found on our ASB website or by reaching out to me.
Student Author Ask Me Anything (AMA) Series
The student committee continues to host our bimonthly series of online events by and for students. The AMA (Ask-Me-Anything) series features students who have recently published a paper talking to other students about their research and sharing their experience with the publishing process. Check out recordings of our previous AMA events, and stay tuned for our upcoming event in March! If you have recently published and are interested in sharing your experience, please complete this survey.
Professional Development Series
This year, we were excited to launch our new Professional Development Series to further serve the needs of ASB students. This series of workshops features students, post-docs, faculty, and industry partners discussing topics such as career choices post-graduation, managing work/life balance, and finding/applying for funding opportunities. We have exciting events planned for February and April and hope to see you all there.
