Hello again, ASB!
As the summer heats up, the excitement is building for the World Congress of Biomechanics. Whether you are putting the finishing touches on your presentations, coordinating travel with colleagues, or simply looking forward to catching up with old friends over coffee, the annual meeting is always a highlight of our year. It’s the perfect time to celebrate the incredible work happening across our field and look forward to where biomechanics is heading next.
Behind the scenes, your Communications Committee has been busy improving our strategy and processes to make sure you stay connected, informed, and inspired all year round. Here is a quick look at what we’ve been working on, where we are growing, and what is on the horizon.
Our Digital Footprint: Meeting You Where You Are
Over the last year, we’ve prioritized expanding our reach and broadening where we share biomechanics and Society news. We want to meet our members wherever they prefer to scroll. To give you an idea of how our community is growing, we took a closer look at our follower growth from July 1, 2025, to June 15, 2026, and the results show an incredibly vibrant, growing digital community. Shout out to Katie Knaus and Allie McCrady for helping with engagement across our platforms to help maintain and inspire this growth! Here is how our ASB platforms are doing:
| Followers July 2025 |
Followers June 2026 |
Growth & Recent Wins | |
| 1,110 | 2,430 | +119% growth! More than doubled our reach, making this our fastest-growing hub for featured papers, job postings, and professional networking | |
| Instagram @amsocbiomech |
137 | 701 | +411% growth! Driven by highly visual XB intros, student takeovers, and key deadline reminders |
| 3,442 | 3,454 | Steady and reliable – this remains a wonderful, stable space for connecting with long-standing members and sharing regional meeting updates | |
| BlueSky @amsocbiomech.bsky.social |
25 | 92 | A new endeavor – we are rapidly approaching 100 followers on our decentralized academic hub! |
| Threads @amsocbiomech |
10 | 25 | Emerging space- a casual, low-pressure outlet for lighter, day-to-day conversational updates |
| X (Twitter) @AmSocBiomech |
7,871 | 7,811 | Holding near 7.8k – despite broader platform shifts in academia, it remains our largest overall follower count |
Whether you are on a mainstay platform like Facebook or exploring decentralized spaces like BlueSky, we want to ensure you have a seat at the ASB table. Rachel Teater has been digging deeper into our platform analytics with the Communications Committee, so stay tuned for the ASB Business Meeting to learn more!
Shifting Our Strategy
Historically, communications teams are great at sending out reminders: Submit your abstract! Register now! Apply for this award! While those logistical deadlines are incredibly important, we want our ASB channels to be a source of genuine value, interest, and entertainment for you.
Lately, we’ve been working on content that asks absolutely nothing of you. We want to use our platforms to champion the science of biomechanics and the people behind it. Jessica Molina and Ridhi Sahani have been spearheading this effort and bringing you:
- Executive Board (XB) Introductions: Giving you a look behind the curtain at the human beings who help run our society by sharing their journeys, advice, and what keeps them excited about the field.
- Biomechanics Spotlights: Sharing cool science, highlighting papers, and showing off lab breakthroughs.
If there is a particular type of content you’d love to see on our feeds, please reach out (comms@asbweb.org)! Our goal is to keep ASB on your mind and provide the transparency and visibility you deserve from your society.
The Big Picture: Strategy, Implementation, and Web Audits
Almost every major initiative in ASB involves Communications. When other committees launch brilliant new programs, our job is to make sure those programs get the spotlight they deserve.
To make this seamless, the Communications Committee has been closely involved in shaping the Implementation Plan that the Executive Board is using to carry out the Society’s broader Strategic Plan. We are mapping out clear, repeatable processes to ensure that when ASB moves forward, our communications engine is already running to support it.
Additionally, we are working through a comprehensive audit of our website (asbweb.org), led by Alex Reiter and Ke Song. We want to make sure that our digital home is highly navigable, intuitive, and genuinely useful for you. We’ll be looking at everything from finding resources quickly to streamlining how members access Society benefits. Stay tuned for updates as this project gets underway!
See You Soon!
Thank you to everyone who engages with our posts, shares our content, and keeps our online community so incredibly vibrant and supportive. We can’t wait to swap stories, share science, and connect with so many of you in person at the upcoming meeting.
In the meantime, make sure you are following ASB on your favorite platforms listed above so you don’t miss any pre-meeting announcements. Thanks so much to the Communications Committee this year! You all have been a great help and I appreciate your insights, assistance, and positive attitude at our monthly meetings. If you’re interested in helping with ASB Communications in any way please reach out (comms@asbweb.org). The Communications Committee is always happy to welcome new members!
