These are certainly interesting times with respect to the financial markets. However, the society is maintaining a healthy portfolio through the first quarter of 2026. Due to the World Congress of Biomechanics meeting in Vancouver this July, ASB is not holding its annual meeting in 2026, which has had a significant impact on our budget. The annual meeting is the Society’s single biggest expense and revenue source, so we are forecasting a net loss for 2026. We felt strongly that ASB could weather this one-time loss, which was buttressed by several recent years of strong performance by the Society. A good early sign is that our membership registration revenues are already up above what was expected for the year!

The next month will be a busy time as we prepare for the World Congress of Biomechanics. There are great scientific presentations to look forward to, but also lots of ASB awards and prizes to give out, which means I’ll be writing lots of checks in the coming months. Congratulations to all of our award winners. And, thank you to all of those who have donated to support these prizes and all of the meeting and society initiatives, many of which go toward supporting student travel and student programs. We look forward to seeing everyone in Vancouver!
