I am super excited to share this update with you on the plans we have been making for you to attend ASB 2023! The 47th annual ASB conference will be held in Knoxville, TN, on August 8-11, 2023. Whether you experience Knoxville’s pedestrian-friendly streets and a winding river walk, explore close-by outdoor activities, or enjoy the many options to appreciate arts and culture in the area, I truly believe you will be surprised by all that Knoxville has to offer.
A great advantage of holding this in-person conference in Knoxville is its central location and how easily you can get to the city because it is within a day’s drive of half the U.S. population, conveniently located just off I-40 and I-75, and just minutes from I-81. If you would rather fly than drive, then look for McGhee Tyson Airport code TYS (see the Fly Knoxville site), which is 12 miles south of Downtown Knoxville. One of the best things about Downtown Knoxville is that it has many of the amenities of life in a bigger city in a relatively smaller area, and you are never too far away from peace and quiet in the outdoors. The conference activities will be held at the Knoxville Convention Center, which is across the street from the Marriott Knoxville Downtown and only one block from the Hilton Knoxville (see special hotel booking details on the ASB 2023 Accommodation page). The conference site is also adjacent to the 1982 World’s Fair Park and within walking distance to downtown Knoxville and the University of Tennessee-Knoxville campus. The pre-conference Workshops and Tutorials will be at the convention center and the Biomechanics Laboratory Tours will take place on the university campus, which is a short walk or a free, 10-minute ride away (see Knoxville Trolley page). The convention center’s Grand Ballroom and adjoining concourses have nearly 50,000 sq. ft. reserved for ASB’s main conference hub to allow ample room for holding the Opening Reception, Exhibitors, Posters, Keynote Lectures and Plenary Award Sessions, and Meals. Radiating from this hub, additional rooms with over 25,000 sq. ft. across two floors of the convention center will hold the comprehensive Scientific Program, Women in Science, Diversity and Inclusion events, and Participant Research Studies. We expect to accommodate Research Posters, including Thematic Posters, and there will be extra room to move about them; in addition, we will be able to accommodate five parallel tracks of Scientific Programming. All sessions will be held in rooms that are ADA compliant and fully accessible by elevator, escalator, and stairs.
