Preparations are ramping up for our 48th Annual Meeting, August 5-8, 2024 in beautiful Madison, Wisconsin! Madison is the Wisconsin State Capital, and is consistently rated one of the happiest, most livable, and most beautiful cities in the United States.

Situated between lakes Mendota and Monona, downtown Madison hosts a lively summer scene for a variety of pre- and post-conference recreation. The Capitol Square area and adjacent State Street area are full of restaurants and bars for dining and late-night entertainment. The Overture Center for the Arts is a short walk away for world-class shows. The University of Wisconsin campus offers lakeside relaxation and dining, and ample sports and arts events. Both lakes offer opportunities for paddling, boating, beaching, biking and hiking, and parks abound throughout the city. The summer in August is very pleasant, with mostly dry weather and an average high of 80° F and low of 59° F. For more information on what to enjoy during your stay, see the ASB 2024 Destination page and Destination Madison on the web.

The conference center is just off the Capitol Square, which in turn connects to the rest of the downtown and the University of Wisconsin campus. Many destinations are within a 1-mile walk from the convention center. For longer trips, the Capitol Square area has buses to all parts of the city. Alternatively, Monona Terrace connects to some 75 miles of bike paths in Madison. B-Cycle e-bike rentals are a convenient amenity for short trips using these paths and on-road bike lanes. Taxis and ride-share services are widely available for farther trips.

The conference will be held at Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center, stunningly set on the north shore of Lake Monona, steps from the Wisconsin State Capitol in the heart of downtown Madison. The building was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in the mid-twentieth century, and ultimately built in 1997. It is an ADA accessible, LEED Platinum Certified green building, offering 250,000 total square feet including 85,000 square feet of meeting and exhibit space, such as an Exhibition Hall overlooking the lake, a Ballroom, a Lecture Hall, and twenty-one breakout meeting rooms. Accommodations are available at two hotels immediately adjacent to the conference center.

Getting to and traveling in Madison is easy. Madison is served by Dane County Regional Airport (code MSN) offers direct flights from 16 hub airports, spanning from Phoenix to Miami to New York, with one-stop flights to many other US and international destinations. The airport is located within the city and a short, five-mile bus or car trip from the conference venue. Milwaukee (MKE) and Chicago O’Hare (ORD) airports are 1½ and 2½ hours away by car or bus, providing additional flight options. For a road trip, travel by car is about 4 hours from Minneapolis-St. Paul, 5 hours from St. Louis or Indianapolis, 6½ hours from Detroit, or 7 hours from Columbus.
