The 2023-2024 year has been an exciting year as we have continued to return to the new normal in teaching and education practices after the pandemic.

ASB Repository

The ASB Education Committee has been busy improving the ASB Repository. In the newest version of the repository you can find all of the resources in one place regarding teaching, course creation, outreach events, publication tips, and more. The committee will be raffling off a new ASB t-shirt to all members who submit entries to the repository before the upcoming ASB 2024 Annual Meeting in Madison, WI. Many thanks to the Repository Sub-committee: JJ Wallace, Sara Arena, Brian Knarr, Kristyne Wiegand, Dustin Bruening, Herman Van Werkhoven, Mitchell Tillman, Brad Bowser, and Brian Wallace!

Regional Meetings

This spring, ASB supported five excellent regional meetings around the country, including Rocky Mountain ASB, South Central ASB, Northeast ASB, Northwest Biomechanics Symposium, and Great Plains Biomechanics Symposium. These applications have been increasingly competitive so please keep in mind that submissions are due every year on September 30th. Thank you to the regional meeting sub-committee: Kristen Renner, Matt Wittstein, Megan Toney-Bolger, Timothy Reissman, Dustin Bruening, Craig Goehler, Lindsay Carroll, Jonathan Goodwin, Gu Eon Kang, and Tara Diesbourg.

Congratulations to the 2024 ASB Grad Student Grant-In-Aid winners!

Among a competitive pool of applicants, five grad student members were awarded $2000 to support their research.

  • Jiyun Wendy Ahn from Georgia State University (Advisor: Feng Yang) Effects of body adipose distribution on fall risks and motor learning among older adults with obesity
  • Mohammed Alamri from University of Wisconsin-Milwaulkee (Advisor: Stephen Cobb) Foot kinematics and lower extremity neuromuscular function in middle-aged patients with plantar heel pain
  • Grace Kellaher from University of Delaware (Advisor: Jeremy Crenshaw) Quantifying adapted balance control in chronic stroke
  • Kathy Reyes from Oregon State University (Advisor: Jennifer Creighton) Effects of midsole cushioning and outsole traction on ankle kinematics during downhill trail running
  • Oscar Vila Dieguez from University of Southern California (Advisor: Lori Michener) The relationship of neuromuscular and tendon tissue factors to patient recovery in rotator cuff tendinopathy: an 8 week clinical investigation

As a reminder, these awards are due each year on January 15th so please plan ahead accordingly. Thank you to the dedicated reviewers for your many hours of thoughtful reviews of these applications: Kristyne Wiegand, Ben Meyer, James Yang, Feng Yang, Scott Monfort, Sara Arena, Wendi Weimar, Ke Song, Bobby Charalambous, Jonathan Goodwin, Jake Hinkel-Lipsker, and Chun-Kai Huang.
