Guidelines

Each symposium will have a 90-minute time slot and must have a minimum of 3 speakers. There should be at least a 15-minute moderated panel, audience discussion, or another interactive format scheduled within the symposium.

Proposals will be evaluated by the ASB Program Committee. Selection will be based on the quality of the proposal and appropriateness for the ASB community. Symposium organizers, and all speakers, must be registered for the meeting once registration opens.

Priority for selection will be given to symposia that include one or all of the following:

  • Provide a bridge between basic science, kinesiology, engineering and/or clinical domains
  • Topics that address novel and/or controversial issues
  • Encourage debate between presenters and/or the audience
  • Are educational and encourage discussion among attendees
  • Include a diverse group of speakers that bring unique approaches or perspectives to the topic
  • Topics in biomechanics outside the traditional focus areas of ASB are encouraged

Proposals must include the following: may not exceed 8000 characters (approximately 1000 words) and should include the following:

  • Symposium title (maximum 250 characters, including spaces)
  • Organizer name, affiliation and contact information
  • Speaker names, affiliation and contact information
  • Talk titles for each talk in the symposium – should the submission be accepted, further details will be required for the individual talks
  • Confirmation that the organizer is an ASB Member in good standing
  • Summary of the symposia to be used in promotion of the session, if selected (maximum 900 characters)
  • Description of the symposium (maximum 8000 characters, approximately 1000 words, including spaces) should include:
    • Background/significance
    • Explanation of how the symposium addresses the ASB selection priorities
    • Description of the speakers and their unique contributions(s) to the symposium
    • Description of the symposium format, how the audience will be involved, and if there is a debate, how will it be structured and moderated and by whom (if not the Organizer) etc.

ASB will not provide any support for travel or other expenses for symposium speakers or organizers. If there is a need for potential support to allow for the inclusion of a speaker who would not typically attend the ASB meeting and would make a significant contribution these should be discussed with the Program Chair prior to the organizer accepting the invitation to present the symposia if it is selected.

Please contact the ASB Program Chair for details.
