GRADE Initiative

The ASB Grants for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (GRADE) grant program was created by the American Society of Biomechanics Diversity Committee to enhance recruitment and retention efforts of underrepresented populations in biomechanics.

The grant will support diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) educational, research, and capacity-building initiatives provided by biomechanics organizations. This grant will award amounts up to $5000.

GRADE proposals will only be accepted and reviewed if submitted by 5 PM PST on January 31st, 2022. We expect to award these grants in March, 2022.

Eligibility and Expectations

Proposals for the GRADE grant can be submitted by not-for-profit organizations, groups affiliated with institutions of higher learning, or ASB Affinity Groups. Preference will be given to proposals that are not fundable through other mechanisms, or to groups that do not have access to other mechanisms (e.g. NIH, NSF, university funds). Grants can support ongoing initiatives or new initiatives.

Recipients will be expected to submit an annual report detailing how funds were used and achievements relative to proposed milestones each year through completion. Most projects are expected to be completed within 1 year, but may be completed over a longer period if justified in the proposal.

Application

The application consists of the materials listed below.

  1. Project Summary (max 1 page) This section of the proposal should include a summary that briefly describes the overview of the proposed activities, highlights how the grant will support a short-term and/or long-term influence on the organization’s initiatives, and how the grant aligns with the organization’s missions and vision.
  2. Project Details (max 5 pages)
    This section of the proposal should provide specific details about the proposed activities. The project details should include the following information: how will the activities be conducted, a detailed timeline with anticipated milestones, number of proposed individuals impacted by grant, educational demographics of proposed individuals impacted by grant, and the impact the grant is anticipated to have on improving opportunities for underrepresented populations in biomechanics.
  3. Project Team (max 1 page total)
    This section of the proposal should provide biographical information of key team members affiliated with the proposed project including their other relevant activities, employment, etc.
  4. Funding Allocation (max 2 pages)
    This section of the proposal should provide the proposed budget for the project and how the budget will be allocated for the initiative. Funding of the proposed project will only cover the materials and/or equipment provided in the project details. The grant may not serve as an additional funding opportunity for the organization’s members. The funding allocation for the proposed project should not exceed 2 pages.
