Hello ASB Members! As I begin my first newsletter as ASB Secretary, I want to take a moment to extend my heartfelt thanks to our outgoing secretary, Ana Ebrahimi. Ana has been an outstanding leader and the driving force behind the Membership Committee, spearheading numerous key initiatives and ensuring the smooth operation of our society. Her dedication to preserving ASB’s institutional memory has left a lasting impact, and I am deeply grateful for her continued support as I transition into this role. A little about me: I am honored to serve as your ASB Secretary. I earned my B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Rochester and my M.S. and Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Utah. My professional journey includes senior engineering roles for DOD research and development, serving as Director of Engineering in healthcare, and my current position as a Professor of Practice and Director of Biomechanics at the University of South Dakota. My connection with ASB began in 2008 as a student member, and I have been actively involved since, serving on the Membership Committee since 2022. I am eager to continue supporting and advancing the biomechanics community through my role as ASB Secretary. My primary focus is to foster a vibrant and inclusive community within ASB. I am committed to transparent communication, efficient membership management, and upholding the integrity of our election processes. As Chair of the Membership Committee, my goal is to enhance member engagement, attract new talent, and provide valuable professional development resources. I am also dedicated to fostering collaboration by organizing networking events, workshops, and seminars. Moreover, I am passionate about advocating for diversity and inclusion initiatives to ensure that ASB provides value to all members, including those from rural, international, and economically disadvantaged backgrounds. I am truly excited and honored to serve as your ASB Secretary and look forward to working with you all this year, particularly through our Membership Committee. Our goal is to expand our membership—not only in numbers but also in diversity across disciplines and career paths—ensuring that ASB continues to provide meaningful value to all members. If you’re interested in getting involved with the Membership Committee or any other ASB committee, signing up is simple! Just log into the Membership Toolkit, go to “My Member Details” under “My Account” in the top bar, and complete the “2025 ASB Volunteer Interests” form. If volunteering for the Membership Committee isn’t your thing, but you have some ideas on what you would like to see ASB offer our members, I would love to hear from you via email at asbsecretary@asbweb.org.
